Food Sovereignty Programme (FSP) annual meeting in Jakarta-Indonesia 5/9-2015 - 10/9-2015


PENGON-FOE Palestine, represented by Alaa Abuein, participated in The Food Sovereignty Programme annual meeting in Jakarta-Indonesia from 59 2015 until 109 2015.  The objectives of the meeting were:


1- Build FoEI members capacities on civil society participation in the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) and UN Food and Agricultural Organisation processes
• History and political relevance of the CFS
• Who participates and how
• The strategic reasons for engaging
• Opportunities and weaknesses

2- Evaluate how FoEI has been working in the international spaces like CFS and FAO and develop future strategies
• How is CFS / FAO linked to grassroots struggles of movements and FoEI groups? Can it support the grassroots work and how?
• How do the achievements and progress made there link back to national work of member groups and what value can they get from this?
• How does the space contribute to movement building as outlined in the STAP?
• How does the space measure against the STAP objectives?

3- Share and document regional perspectives on agroecology – with a view to agreeing key pillars of agroecology for FoEI.
What do regions see as key pillars of agroecology?
What were the outcomes of Mali forum
Present and debate draft paper on pillars of agroecology – what is missing? What needs more elaboration? Are there any areas of difference?

Understanding each others approaches and understanding the context – set the framework and pillars of agroecology

4- Develop a more detailed global advocacy strategy for the FSP workstream – showing that agroecology and community management works
Elaborate based on existing strategy
Joint activities to focus on 2016 – 2018

5- Develop (or set the basis for) communication strategy for promoting solutions
